The Centre for African Research is an independent knowledge production, management and research organization based in Gulu City in Northern Uganda.

Stitches from Acholi-Land: Threads of Identity: Culture, Fashion & Future Storytelling

Gulu City, Uganda — Produced by the Centre for African Research-Uganda and curated by Otlum Kollection Stitches from Acholi-Land is set to launch with a ground-breaking press conference that will bring together designers, cultural preservationists, celebrities, media houses, and innovators in fashion-tech. This unique project reimagines the Acholi people’s cultural symbols, heritage, and storytelling into sustainable, future-forward fashion.

The press conference will serve as the official announcement of this one-of-a-kind cultural fashion installation and dialogue  event scheduled for 13th and 14th Septmeber 2025. It will highlight how fashion can serve as both a living archive of cultural identity and a platform for innovation, sustainability, and community empowerment.

Arthur Owor of the Centre for African Research-Uganda and Sara Weschler of the Conflict Research Group at Ghent University have jointly published a colonial report on the Lamogi Rebellion titled, “The Eyes of All Acholiland Were Turned Toward This Hill” : Sharing the British Colonial Report on the Lamogi Rebellion of 1911-1912.

Who we are

We were founded in 2013. Over the years, the size and profile of the Centre has grown considerably and now includes members from many sectors and major universities in Europe and in the United States of America. The group conducts activities including production and co-production of knowledge, orientation, seminars and conferences and publications throughout Uganda , South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Kenya.
We also provide highly skilled Research Collaborators and provide an opportunity for affiliation with researchers.
